Becoming a Successful Gem Cutter
Jewelcrafting offers the ability to craft unique gems that only a Jewelcrafter himself can equip. These gems provide a considerable bonus for any class in the game. For example, if you are a Warlock, your dps will definitely be boosted with special spell power gems. All the other classes also have the same appropriate benefit if they choose Jewelcrafting.
To start your work as a Jewelcrafter you need to start mining and prospect ores. You will be able to choose how to level up Jewelcrafting and there are two ways – choose Mining as your second profession or visit the Auction House, buy stacks of ores and start prospecting. This option is far more expensive, but will save you some time in your leveling. However, the choice is completely up to you.
With Jewelcrafting, as your primary profession, comes Prospecting as well. This skill will enable you to prospect more or less valuable gems from five pieces of certain ore.
Jewelcrafting raised to a high enough skill level allows creation of Icy Prisms, of which the creation has a cooldown of about 20 hours. Icy Prism gives a chance of extract highly valuable gems, worth a lot of gold on the Auction House. In order to make an Icy Prism you will need one frozen orb and various less valuable gems.
What else can a Jewelcrafter make?
Aside from making gems, a Jewelcrafter is able to craft various necklaces, rings and trinkets. This profession allows selling necklaces and rings of epic rarity to other players for a nice amount of gold, as these items boost players’ statistics considerably.
There are also some other useful items a Jewelcrafter is able to make, like the statues made of stone. The small stone guardian is able to heal you once summoned. Stone statues are especially useful when you get in difficult situations while you are still in lower levels.
It is amazingy profitable! Already in Outland, you will be able to obtain pieces of improved gear, carrying one or even three gem sockets. Sockets differ in colour of gems that are to be placed there – blue, yellow or red. Gems of additive colors such as green, orange and purple, may fit in both primary color slots they are mixed of.
Starting with level 80, you will gain access to heroics and raiding where you will be able to acquire epic quality gear. Epic pieces of gear that have sockets available definitely deserve the best gems and this is where a good Jewelcrafter can fit in. He will be able to profit greatly just by selling gems or by cutting gems for other players.
To learn new recipes you need to do the Jewelcrafting daily quests as often as possible. These quests are obtainable in Dalaran and the name of the quest-giver is Timothy Jones. By completing jewelcrafting quests, you will earn tokens that will allow you to purchase new and valuable Jewelcrafting recipes.
